Foot pain is extremely common and can be the result of injury or abnormal biomechanics of localized muscles, bones, joints and ligaments. Typical causes may relate to Plantar Fasciitis (inflammation), Heel Spurs (calcifications), Bunion (big toe deformity), and Ankle Sprains (ligament). We have a separate section that deals with Achilles Tendon Pain.
Naturally there are many associations to foot pain and injury, whether it be from sports, overuse activities or a biomechanical abnormality.
A proper assessment by a physiotherapist is recommended. Physicentrix can also help you determine if any dietary, lifestyle, training issue or otherwise may be additional factors to consider in managing your rehabilitation.
This is a common inflammation or tearing (tendinopathy) of the plantar fascia, the connective tissue on the bottom of the foot. It often presents as pain during stretching of the plantar fascia or weight bearing activity. It can also be caused by poor foot biomechanics or trauma to the area from landing on a sharp object. However, it may manifest without a clear cause or reason.
Many factors may contribute to plantar fasciitis. Commonly, those with leg muscle tightness or poor walking or foot biomechanics (flat feet) are at greater risk.
Symptoms will be pain under the heel and foot or foot arch. Pain will be worse during the first few steps and will then improve.
Without proper treatment the condition will worsen and progress into a heel spur.
