Shin Pain (Shin Splints)

Pain in the lower leg or shin most often relates to the general term shin splints. Typical causes may relate to muscle inflammation and tears, decreased blood flow or nerve issues. Or in more serious cases may develop into stress fractures of the lower leg bones.

Commonly this condition is associated with athletes who perform lower leg impact sports, jumping sports and runners; however, it may appear in the general population due to an overuse of the lower leg at work or through personal activities such as long periods walking or standing.
